Founded in 2004, the Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) is an award-winning project of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, partnering with seven New Haven public schools.
The JCL is a nondenominational program that recruits, trains, places, and supports volunteer reading partners in our local public schools, meeting one-to-one with children to share the pleasures of reading and conversation while enjoying learning in a relaxed, nurturing environment. Students benefit from the interaction with a caring adult. With JCL, we learn together. No previous experience needed.

Please join us as we celebrate our volunteers, and welcome potential new reader partners. It only takes one hour a week to bring great joy to the New Haven area inner-city school children. Enjoy a delicious brunch, followed by a visit from Tish Rabe, whose extraordinary career writing children’s books has included writing for “The Cat in The Hat” series.
